Healthy Ways to Gain Weight If You’re Underweight

People who are underweight hope to gain few pounds, to look attractive with well defined muscles and sexy curves. Meanwhile, take a look on the causes of being underweight, and the solutions to gain few kilos.

To compensate for the rapid metabolic turnover, increase your intake of foods. Eat four-six smaller meals every day, following the basic rules of eating. Include rich carbs in diet, preferably starchy foods- bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cereals, loads of fruits and vegetables, Pulses, Nuts and seeds.

Consume calorie-dense foods such as oils, dried fruit, nuts and seeds and avocados. Ensure you are eating healthy and nutritious foods than the junk foods.


If you’re undergoing constant stress/depression, then you may also gain weight. Try to address the problem by consulting a clinical psychologist. Distract yourself from stress with other activities be it meditation, yoga or an aerobics class. Get at least six to eight hours of sleep.

Poor Absorption

Many people may suffer from poor absorption of food, and the reasons behind this may be due to coeliac disease, cystic fibrosis or steatorrhoea, inability to absorb the fats from gastrointestinal tract. These people have trouble in gaining weight. Consult the doctors if you’re facing such problems, and the doctors may prescribe medications, such as enzymes, to aid digestion.


Children who are facing the ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) condition have trouble in gaining weight. Since children often they burn up energy at an alarming rate, due to their activeness, they suffer from underweight issues. Dieticians suggest them to have balanced diet with three or more times of snacks in between their meals. A healthy snack is what they need to regulate their blood sugar levels

Too Much Exercise

Excessive exercises can make them burn too many calories, and they fail to retain any energy and ultimately struggle to maintain the weight. Don’t push your body too much, till you reach the exhaustion point or till your diet cannot keep up with the increased demands.


If you’re suffering from other diseases and constantly taking medicines, it may be one of the reasons you cannot gain weight. Few medicines can suppress the appetite and can shed some of your pounds. So, check with your doctor, if your new medication is making you lose weight.
