7 Simple Remedies for Toothache Relief

Even if you brush and floss twice a day, toothaches can sometimes occur. It can happen due to variety of reasons- cavity, a broken tooth, an abscess or sinusitis. Here are the Home Remedies on how to cure a toothache, before you take a visit to the dentist.

1. Cloves alleviate pain

An ancient remedy that works effectively to alleviate toothaches, thanks to its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties. Cloves contain Eugenol, the primary chemical compound that aids to numb the nerves in the tooth and reduce the pain. Dab the clove oil in the affected area with a cotton ball. Use the whole clove or powdered clove by placing it on your tooth and chew it a bit to release the oil.

2. Swish Salt Water

Swish warm salt water solution around the mouth for at least thirty seconds before spitting it out, as it acts as natural antiseptic and aid in preventing further infection. This solution increases the salt concentration in the tooth and attacks the microbes that have been causing pain. Repeat it thrice a day.

3. Ice Packs provide relief

Cover ice cubes with a thin piece of cloth or then hold them over the affected area, where the problem is. Ice Packs will numb the area and brings down swelling. Alternatively, you can use a cold-compress or eat cold foods to reduce the pain and cool down the nerve-endings. You can also try the hot compress.

4. Garlic has medicinal properties

Garlic is packed with antibiotic, other medicinal properties and the compound Allicin acts as anaesthetic that provides immense relief from toothache. Crush a couple of garlic cloves, add salt or black pepper, and apply it directly to the affected tooth. Let it stay for a while till the pain subsides. Ensure that garlic is crushed and not cut, as the only crushing garlic releases the oil, which aids to alleviate the pain.

5. Go for Spices

Spices can not only aid in alleviating pain but also disinfects the area. Ginger and cayenne pepper are one of the effective remedies. Grind fresh ginger and add cayenne pepper to it by mixing it with water. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and place it on the tooth, avoiding your gums and tongue.  Keep it in place till the pain fades. The spices provide heat and reduce the pain.

6. Tea Tree Oil works effectively

Tea Tree Oil is packed with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and helps alleviate tooth ache. Add few drops of Tea Tree Oil to a cotton swab and hold in place of the affected area to lower the pain. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of tea tree oil to a small glass of lukewarm water and rinse your mouth with the solution.

7. Hydrogen Peroxide cures dental problems

Most people have Hydrogen Peroxide in their medicine cabinet. Hydrogen peroxide can cure several dental problems by easing tooth aches and fighting against germs, and many individuals swear by the remedy. Mix the peroxide with water and hold a half-tablespoon in your mouth and on the infected tooth for few minutes. Repeat the treatment twice a day to get rid of toothaches.
