Obesity Risks? Substitute your sugary drinks with water

Substituting your sugary sodas with water can considerably help you manage weight as well as cut down the Obesity risk, suggests the study.

Researchers found that consuming additional calories from sugary drinks such as sodas, energy drinks, and sweetened coffee can affect weight gain, obesity and further lead to Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Kiyah J. Duffey from Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg in US says, “No matter the number of sugar-sweetened beverages you consume, but replacing even one of your drinks can be beneficial in lowering Obesity.”

Switching from a sugar-sweetened beverage to a serving of water could reduce your calories intake, and further the prevalence of obesity in individuals who consume sugary beverages. The researchers found that replacing one sugary drink these individuals consume with one glass of water has reduced the calories from 17 to 11 per cent.

Individuals who consume more sugary drinks per day can also benefit by substituting it with water, dropping the amount of calories coming from beverages to less than 25 per cent of their daily caloric intake, said the researchers.

The study published in the journal Nutrients state that the high calorie drinks such as sugary sodas and high fat milk are linked to the diets rich in red and processed meats, refined grains, sweets, and starch.

Instead, go for Lower-calorie drinks including water and unsweetened coffee and tea, which were associated with alternative diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and poultry. People who consume water and low-calorie alternatives tend to consume more fruits and vegetables and stay hydrated and cut down Obesity risks.
